Continuing the dialogue.....
John, His Story
Dear Friend,
As a theater ministry, Acacia seeks to offer high quality theater, which affords the opportunity to view one's life in relationship to the fullness of God's truth. We pray that our shows offer an occasion for thanksgiving, growth, enjoyment and understanding. Without detracting from the theater experience, which we hope you enjoyed, and obviously without foreknowledge of topics dealt with in the "Talk Back," we would like to continue the dialogue by sharing some of the thoughts that the board of directors discussed after reading this play.
Early in this play, we were introduced to Jesus as an embodiment of God –a life that was the light of men, shining in the darkness.
Then the playwright posed three questions:
* Where today is that shining light?
* Where today is that beacon of hope?
* Where today is that thought of peace?
The miracles Jesus performed are testimonies to His power and authority. As Nicodemus said, "Rabbi we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him."
John 3:2
It was easier for people to believe that Jesus was from God when faced with the evidence of a miracle. But as Jesus told Thomas: "Thomas because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed; blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed." John 20:29
If we have doubts, if we do not understand, or have uncertainties, where can we turn? Jesus' answers are recorded the Gospel of St. John.
Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life; and they are they which testify of me.
John 6:47&48
Verily, verily I say to you, he that believeth on me hath everlasting life. I am that bread of life. John 6:47&48
Then Jesus spake again unto them saying, “I am the light of the world; he that followth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." John 8:12
So to answer the playwrights questions, the light, the hope, and the thoughts of peace are found in searching the scriptures, sharing God's promises found there, and resting in the confidence that, "God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16
